Pollution scores

What pollution score did you get?

Pollution scores give an instant indication of your local air quality based on your lichen survey results. If you have done multiple surveys, they are an easy way to compare air quality between sites. How do your results measure up against friends' findings?

Pollution score graphWhat does the score mean?
Your pollution score is calculated using an average of all the trees you analysed for that site. The scale ranges from +54 (very clean air) to -54 (very polluted air) .

Your score is likely to be a positive number if you mostly found nitrogen-sensitive lichens, which only flourish where there is little air pollution. If you found more nitrogen-loving lichens, which prefer polluted air, then your score is likely be in the negative range.
