Nitrogen-sensitive

Hypogymnia is very sensitive to nitrogen pollution in the air so is rarely found close to roads in big cities.

There are two species found on trees in England, both are very common and this survey does not distinguish between the two.

Characteristics

  • Lobes are evenly green-grey
  • Ends are sometimes powdery
  • Lobes puffed up and hollow
