Banish the winter blues
I was at Anglers Country Park near Wakefield this week, delivering training to Countryside Rangers about the OPAL Air Survey , hoping to persuade them how wonderful lichens were. One of the Rangers, Sue, clearly didn't need much persuasion, she sent me a wonderful email after the session, saying "I've always liked lichens but don't know enough about them". Even better she sent me these fantastic photographs, which really cheered me up and helped banish those "it's cold, grey, sleeting, and still 1 week to go til Christmas" blues. So I thought I'd share them with you! Enjoy!
Photos taken by Sue Worrall - thanks
If someone could identify them for me that would be great!

Hi Sue
Why not place the photos on www.iSpot.org.uk This is a site developed as part of OPAL by Open University for exactly this purpose. Anybody can place photographs for identification by the community of users - some experts, others handy with a camera and curious.
Best wishes

Thanks Jon. I tried this but the computer at work wouldn't allow me to submit the photos onto iSpot. I'll have a go from home instead.

My new lichen book arrived!
My new lichen book, "Lichens: An Illustrated Guide to the Briitsh and Irish Species" by Frank Dobson arrived this week. I reckon photo 1 is of Cladonia ramulosa.
2 I think might be Cladonia coniocraea - it says it is very common in woods, on trees of decaying stumps and logs
Picture 3 I have no idea, although maybe it is a species of Cladonia? Anyone care to agree or disagree?
