You can now explore the world of bugs on your mobile phone. The new Bugs Count app is available for iPhone, iPod Touch and Android users, and it’s completely free.

Browse facts, pictures and identification tips for shieldbugs, hoverflies, spiders and many more common invertebrates. The app also lets you submit your Species Quest sightings directly from your mobile.

ID guide – A guide to common invertebrates including interesting facts and identification tips.

Species Quest – Spotted one of the six Species Quest bugs? Take and send a photo direct from your mobile and help scientists with valuable research.

Bug gallery – Browse a selection of bug images from the Natural History Museum.

Visit the App Store or Android Marketplace on your mobile and search for ‘OPAL Bugs’.
 

Supported Android handsets

The Bugs Count app is currently supported for the following handsets: HTC Desire, HTC Desire HD and Samsung Galaxy S.

Unfortunately, the app may not function or display correctly on other handsets (particularly those with small screens). Please keep an eye out for an update in the coming weeks, which will address these compatibility issues.
