Learn more about the environment around you with these free education packs developed by the OPAL Yorkshire and Humberside team.
The curriculum-linked packs are designed for primary school pupils, but can be used by other age groups if preferred.
- Key Stage 1 (KS1) activities are suitable for ages 5-7
- Key Stage 2 (KS2) for pupils aged 7-11
The packs are created for use in woodland and some need access to particular habitats, such as ponds, but there are also activities that would work in any outdoor setting or even a large indoor space.
Most of the packs have activities you could do in the classroom before and after your visit.
From pollination to den building, find activities to teach your pupils about nature all year round.
Trees and plants
Identify different trees, discover the many uses for plants and explore how seeds are packaged.
From birds to worms, identify and record the creatures living in your local environment.
Arts and creative
Get artistic inspiration, explore the natural world through your senses and tell some woodland tales.
Note: If you are going to use a pack more than once, we recommend laminating the sheets, punching a hole in the corner and securing them together with treasury tags.
