A campaign aiming to plant one million trees across England has opened its final round of funding.
The Big Tree Plant initiative, launched by the Government in 2010, is just 35,000 trees away from hitting its target.
Communities have until 30 August 2013 to apply for funding, and trees should be planted in places such as parks, streets or community spaces where local people can benefit from them.
About 70 per cent of trees in the programme – which is being delivered by Defra and the Forestry Commission – are being planted in England’s most deprived areas.
